The Redditch Astronomical Society are in no way in the business of of selling, renting or trading email lists or contact details. Following are details of what we do with your information.
Personal information refers to anything that can be used to identify you, for example your name, address, email address, phone number, IP address etc. We collect some of this information from you IN PERSON for the legitimate purpose of tracking membership and organising events you have expressed and interest in. This is seperate and unconnected to the website. In general it is possible for you to browse and use our website without disclosing any personal information. We do however use some services to collect anonymous data for analytical use, such as location, pages you view, and how you interact with our site in general (this data helps us to constantly be improving our users’ experience). Because this data is anonymous, it cannot be tied directly to an individual user, for example we cannot link which pages were viewed to your IP address or location - everything is kept separate. We may also collect data to identify which site/link brought you to our site, to help us understand if local astronomers are able to find us. But again, this data is anonymous and cannot be directly linked to you!
The 'cookies' we’re referring to aren’t the yummy, chewy, chocolate-chip-filled snacks you’re probably more familiar with. The ‘cookies’ that we’re on about are small text files that contain information that a web site transfers to your computer's hard disk for record-keeping purposes and allows us to analyse our site traffic patterns. The most important thing to note is that cookies DO NOT give us access to your computer or to information beyond what you provide us. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies; consult your browser's manual or online help if you want information on restricting or disabling the browser's handling of cookies. If you disable cookies, you can still view the information on our web site with reduced usability. If you are using a shared computer and you have cookies turned on, be sure to log off when you finish - or else you’ll leave lots of crumbs behind!
When you become a member of the society we collect information about you to manage membership and the fire safety book. Please do not provide us any information that you do not want to have (other than a name to use by which to refer to you). Any information you provide will be recored by hand in a book held securely by the secretary.
You can request than information held about you is crossed out from this book by contacting the secretary. For fire safety regulations we are oblidged to take you name each time you attend a meeting.
If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact the society secretary.
Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through our website), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above.
For more information about our privacy practices, if you have questions, or if you would like to make a complaint, please contact us by e-mail at secretary or talk to us at a future meeting.
